Peisaje, animale, ambarcatiuni cu panza, personaje istorice... sunt nenumarate simboluri prezente pe etichetele de whisky. Initial scopul pentru care unii distilatori au inceput sa puna pe sticle aceste ”foite” era acela de a distinge propriile produse fata de cele ale altor producatori. Treptat, aceste insemne au ajuns sa semnifice ”dovada originii controlate”. Astazi constituie mai ales o atractie la care consumatorul - spun cei mai buni experti in marketing -nu poate rezista. Chiar marea lor varietate a dus la nasterea unei forme de colectionare cu multi adepti.

A gift from Paradise

Five whisky and brandy boxes, belonging to the explorer in the Poles, Ernest Shackleton, were discovered after more than 100 years. The boxes were burried under Shackleton's cottage, which was built by the explorer in Antarctica, in 1908, during a failed expedition to the South Pole. The boxes had been discovered since 2006, but they were much deeper below the ice to be extracted. Even more, at that time people thought there were only 2 boxes.

Some of them were destroyed by the ice where theyre was burried, so that the experts can have dificulties in theyre eforts to recover the containt.

"This discovery was a gift from Paradise" declared Whyte and Mackay company representative. Richard Paterson the manager of the company who delivered the drinks to Shackleton, declared that "if the contain of that bottles can be extracted and analized, the original recipe can be restored".

"considering that the original recipe was lost long time before, this discovery can open for us a new gate to the history", he mentioned.

The Shackleton's expedition to the South Pole, that took place between 1908 and 1909, was doomed. The participants remained to fast without food an eat, and thay ware forced to give up, wen thay had only arround 150km until final destination. The South Pole was finaly reached for the firts time by the norwegian explorer, Roald Amundsen, in 1911.
